For a Laurel activity we went and picked cherries in an orchard about 30 minutes away. The cherries were just falling off into our hands. It was messy but so fun and delicious! Here's Mallory and I after pitting some for a yummy cherry cobbler.
Corn on the cob is one of my favorites and you can get it fresh on almost any corner around here. Shucking corn always reminds me of summers on my grandma's back porch in Beaver.
Some of the "bounty" from our garden. OK, so it's not much, but we're learning. We've had plenty of zucchini, a few tomatoes, but several other things never grew very well. Next year we'll definitely prepare the soil better (I told you so, Mark!) and fertilize more. It's been really fun going out in the evenings and checking to see what's growing.
Last week we had a fun day at Settler's Park in Meridian. The kids climbed, splashed in the water and played tennis.
The highlight for me was the shaved ice we got at the end. Nothing says summer to me like a Tiger's Blood shaved ice, yum!
So what are your favorite tastes of summer? Hope your last days of summer are filled with special treats!

I'm in 100% agreement with your selections in summer food. Watermelon, corn on the cob, & tiger's blood snowcones are the best. Add to my list huckleberries!! Love Idaho huckleberries. Especially huckleberry milkshakes!
So your luscious locks are making me reconsider this short hair thing I got going on. Such a dilemma!
I agree with all of your choices- well, except the cherries, tomatoes, and potato salad (but c'mon I wouldn't be a Moyes if I wasn't a picky eater!). You know how I feel about watermelon and tiger's blood though!! Oh and I was thinking the same thing about your hair!
The temp is still 110 outside but the kids are back in school so summer is over.
I think homemade icecream, mtn Rainer cherries-they are worth paying a lot for and picking cherry tomatoes off the vine.
My garden took a dive when I had my surgery, haven't been out to check it in two weeks. I am afraid!
One of my summer favorites is grilling chicken in the backyard. I just love when the weather is warm enough to let my hubby do the cooking!
We also love to make pina coladas--using a Bacardi mix, ice and milk instead of rum. So refreshing!
I just got to meet baby Carter. Tears. He is beautiful, precious, amazing....and I felt so guilty to be holding him when his aunts and uncles and cousins are waiting to meet him.
We've had fun experimenting with a garden this year also. We've had pretty good luck except for the corn. I've enjoyed eating tomato sandwiches and making Zucchini bread. I love, love, love tiger's blood snow cones. Why would anyone get any other flavor?
Somewhere, someone linked me to your blog and I love reading it! We are glad to see you are happy and settled and now I've ordered 2 books off your side bar! List more. Love, Jenny
